Book Summary
Meeting countless people as she travels across the country as a writer, social worker and teacher, Sudha Murty listens to their captivating stories and recalls her experiences 'from here and there' in her latest book, 'The Day I Stopped Drinking Milk'.
She shares the heart-warming story of Chitra, a young girl she gave shelter to, after finding her alone and ticketless in a train headed to Bangalore. In another story, the author tells us about Rahman, a Muslim boy brought up like a son by a Hindu family; and in another story - in a drought-stricken village in Karnataka, a middle-aged woman provides bathing water to people who use stones instead of soap. And in the title story, Dr Murty shares how a visiting a poor family in Orissa made her stop drinking milk.
'The Day I Stopped Drinking Milk' is a collection of 23 stories that are endearing and inspirational and are told with utmost simplicity.
