About the Author

Sanjeev Sanyal is Deutsche Bank¹s Global Strategist and was named
Young Global Leader 2010 by the World Economic Forum in Davos. He
is also a well regarded environmentalist and urban theorist. In
2007, he was awarded the prestigious Eisenhower Fellowship for his
work on the economics of cities. He has had many attachments
including Visiting Scholar at Oxford University, Adjunct Fellow at
the Institute of Policy Studies, Singapore and Honorary Senior
Fellow of the World Wildlife Fund. He has served on the boards of
numerous organizations including AFPRO, India¹s largest food
security NGO, and Urban Age at the London School of Economics. A
pioneer in the field of environmental accounting, he co-founded GIST
Advisory and TEEBforBusiness Coalition, Singapore and has advised
the UK government, the United Nations Environment Program and other
institutions.
He attended Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi
University and St John¹s College, Oxford University where he was a
Rhodes Scholar representing India (1992-95). His bestselling book
The Indian Renaissance: India¹s Rise After a Thousand Years of Decline, was
published by Penguin in 2008. He took a sabbatical in 2009/10 to
travel across India to write his latest book Land of the Seven
Rivers: A Brief History of India¹s Geography, published by Penguin
in December 2012. His columns have appeared in the Business
Standard, Indian Express, Guardian, Straits Times, Times of India,
India Today, China Daily, Korea Herald, Project Syndicate and so on.
